​One Dead in Motor Vehicle Crash on Route 31 in Hopewell Township

On Thursday July 16th, a6:05 PM, the Hopewell Township Police along with the Pennington Fire Company, Pennington First Aid Squad, Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical UnitUnion Fire Company, and the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Route 31 south of Route 612. Officers arrived and found that Honda Accord and a Volvo S60 collided. 

The Honda Accord was driven by Harry Foster (76 years of age), of Caroline Avenue, Ewing, New Jersey. Mr. Foster was extricated from his vehicle and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Pennington First Aid Squad with Paramedics from Capital HealthSystem. Mr. Foster was later pronounced dead at the Hospital. 

The Volvo was driven by Elaine Rudolph (63 years of age), of Iowa Ct, Egg Harbor, New Jersey. Ms. Rudolph was extricated from her vehicle and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Hopewell Fire Department Emergency Medical Unit with paramedics from Capital Health System with serious injuries.

Investigation into the crash revealed that Mr. Foster was traveling southbound along Route 31 and Ms. Rudolph was traveling northbound. For an unknown reason the Honda Accord driven by Mr. Foster crossed the center line and struck the Volvo traveling northbound.

Route 31 was closed for approximately 2 hours between Route 612 and Route 654. Traffic was detoured around the crash scene.

The crash is being investigated by Officer James Hoffman, Detective Mike Sherman, and Detective Don Santora of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.
