During Monday night’s Hopewell Valley Regional School District Board of Education reorganization meeting,  Alyce Murray was unanimously elected as president. Former president, Lisa Wolff, accepted the position of vice president. Superintendent Dr. Tom Smith thanked Wolff for her many years serving as president, and said that he looked forward to working with Murray.

In prepared remarks, Murray said that in her role she would work toward enacting initiatives aimed at improving the District appeals process, cultural competency, and student report cards, she would continue to minimize annual budget increases, and would ensure the efficient and responsible use of taxpayer money.

Murray also said, “I look forward to leading a productive 2018 and working closely with our passionate administration and staff of the Hopewell Valley Regional School District. I’m excited to witness the developing programs to improve services and keep our special education students in district and monitor the established homework policy to continue to respect the balance of our students’ academics with co-curriculars and home life.”

Murray also mentioned studies showing benefits of a later start to the school day, the Board’s review of hazardous busing during upcoming budget discussions, and the new Community Relations Committee as a way to ensure that District information is “accessible, transparent, accurate, and easily searchable.”
