Thirty-one Hopewell Valley Central High School (HVCHS) students attended the Philadelphia Model UN Conference in February, and in addition to several individual honors, HVCHS received the Outstanding Large Delegation Award.

Individual Honors included:

  • Position Paper: Vicki Xie and Catherine Zhang;
  • Best Delegation: Annabelle Davis and Julia Rubin;
  • Position Paper: Grayson Glogoff and Jackson Grimes;
  • Most Improved Delegation: Charlie McMahon;
  • Outstanding Delegation: Navruz Baum.

“Ending the year earning the Outstanding Large Delegation is a true testament to the hard work the students have put into the club this year” said Model UN Advisor, Dana Pomykacz. “I am incredibly proud of our students.”

The Model UN programs serve to educate students about important issues, empowers students by developing critical life skills, and engages them in bringing about positive social change, according to According to Priya Kantesaria, Secretary-General Philadelphia Model United Nations 2016. Over the weekend, students represented a variety of nations present within the current United Nations, discussing relevant and pressing international issues through a realistic simulation of the United Nations. The conference strives to engage students, not only as delegates within the conference, but also outside the committee room as well, invigorating and encouraging students to become civic leaders in their own communities.

“The Model UN program is an outstanding opportunity for Hopewell Valley students to participate in civic engagement on a very high level,” said Central High School principal, Michael Daher.
