Fit Like It’s 1999

So it’s time for my Fitness Friday update – it’s been quite a week.  After the insanity of the previous 2 weeks, with work going crazy, doctor’s appointments, back-to-school nights, and a million other things going on – I have to say this week was just what I needed.  I packed my gym bag (badly) and I managed 5...

Busting my butt

Lack of motivation (and maybe laziness and gluttony) has been beating me for the past few weeks. I know I laid out ways to get my butt in gear. But I didn't follow them as faithfully as I should. And I know I told you where I was weight-wise a few years ago. But still those pictures didn't get...

Kid Friendly Meals Are

Bullshit. Everywhere I look, I see articles, books, talk show spots, about how to make a meal kid-friendly. No matter how you dress it up, my kids aren't eating beans. They aren't eating avocados. They aren't eating salad. Basically, they hardly agree to eat anything. They eat: peanut butter (except for D2 who is allergic), bread, bagels, pasta (with or...

Bullseye: The Target Factor

A couple of weeks ago, there was a blog post going around that detailed one mom’s love affair with Target.  Karen Alpert listed out 10 whole reasons on why Target shopping made her life complete.  And I commend her.  Seriously, I totally do. The entire post made me laugh, because that used to be me.  Used To Be.  You see,...

How you doin?

So you might have noticed that our girl Mary has been holding down the fort for the better part of two weeks.  Sorry about that, Mar, and thanks for covering my ass.  Love you, owe you. Friends, you know how I front like I’ve got this working mama stuff totally covered (Hashtag Work Mom)?  And how I just breeze in...

Kids Fantasy Films

Here are 3 fantasy kids movies that I've watched this past year that I love. And here's my warning: they are a little weird, introspective and kind of dark -- which is what I love about them (because I hate excessive cheeriness) (for real). But even if you like excessive cheeriness (and know I'm judging you a little), you...

Polar FT4

It's time you know. I love my Polar FT4 . I wear it EVERY TIME I work out. The Polar FT4 is a heart rate monitor for fitness (including swimming although I've never tried). It tracks and records your heart rate for the duration of a workout and calculates burned calories. You're looking at 2 components -- a watch (displays...

My Wolf Pack

I really think that the concept and importance of a girls’ getaway weekend are seriously underrated.  Two weeks ago, after about eight months of planning, I was in Atlantic City with my three best friends for two whole nights.  You wouldn’t think that two nights in AC would take that much coordination and effort, right?  But between the four...

Let’s get real.

I think it's time to get real. It's time for you to know where I started. I know I've told you that I started working out in January and that I was never an active person. But here's the post where I give you the full picture. I'm getting real with you because I want you to know the real...

Phase 3 Fitness Friday

This week I started to attempt Phase 3 of LiveFit and it is wild -- like a roller derby. (Thanks to reader Cheryl for this analogy.) In addition to other madness, this phase requires sprinting for 30 seconds on/30 seconds off for 30 minutes. That's 15 combined total minutes of sprinting. I have yet to actually complete the full 30 minutes. Jamie...
