Local history: A Home in the Country St. Michael’s Orphanage and Industrial School
Sep 28, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
A historical presentation on St. Michael’s Orphanage sponsored by Hopewell Public Library will take place on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00pm at the Off-Broad Street Theatre in Hopewell Borough. The event is free, and the public is invited and welcomed.
Local historian Jack Koeppel will present on the orphanage on the outskirts of Hopewell Borough, which operated between 1898 and 1973. At its peak, the orphanage housed over 400 children. All that remains today is the 340-acre land preserve that was made possible by community citizens who donated personal funds to save the parcel from development.
Jack will use images from the past as well as stories and facts he has collected about St. Michael’s to bring the property’s history alive. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.
Please note the special location, which was made possible by a generous grant. The event is part of the year-long celebration of Hopewell Borough’s 125th anniversary. No registration is required. For more information, contact Hopewell Public Library at 466-1625.
