See the firetrucks, try your hand at operating a hose, enjoy something tasty from a food truck, and learn important information to protect yourself and your family at Hopewell’s Fire Safety Open House.
The event, sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Uniformed Firefighters Association and Hopewell Township Fire District, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, at the Hopewfell Township Municipal Building, 201 Washington Crossing Road in Pennington. The township’s career firefighters and EMTs and volunteers from Hopewell Fire Department & Emergency Medical Unit, Pennington Fire Company, Pennington First Aid Squad, and Union Fire Company & Rescue Squad, will all take part.
Highlights of the day include the Children’s Fire Academy, Kid’s Interactive Fire Hose Demonstration, the Fire Safety House, and EMS Demonstrations. Child identification kits and free blood pressure checks will be available, and DJ Bobby Jones will provide the music. A bicycle donated by Hart’s Cyclery will be given away!
Township firefighters and EMTS will help spread the message of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme, Hear the Beep Where You Sleep, which reminds everyone that every bedroom needs a life-saving smoke alarm.
Remember: According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of all U.S. home fire deaths occur between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when people are most likely to be sleeping. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a fire in half. Be sure you have the right number and proper placement of these inexpensive, life saving devices! Any questions? Ask at the open house, or call your local fire department any time.
