In a special meeting last night, Hopewell Borough planning board discussed a master plan reexamination and master plan amendment.

A “master plan” is the municipality-created framework that offers specific guidance for the zoning and land uses which guides decisions for both growth and conservation in a community. Stonybrook Millstone Watershed Association has a thorough primer on master plans on their website.

Overall, the Borough reiterated its interest in continuing to preserve open space in and around the Borough.

The planning board, along with the Borough planner Frank Banisch, will also be reexamining the master plan area around the Kooltronics property, known as “Hopewell 57,” near the corner of Blackwell and Lafayette. Among the considerations would be the possibility of mixed-use redevelopment for the area.

The planning board will discuss the reexamination further at its next meeting, on November 5th, before adopting the recommendation to the Borough Council for master plan amendment.
