At the Hopewell Township 2017 Reorganization Meeting on Wednesday night, the Township’s new official Town Crier, Stanley Saperstein, welcomed residents and dignitaries with a booming “Oyez! Oyez!”

In attendance, among a packed room of Hopewell Township residents, were Assemblywoman Liz Muoio, Freeholders Andrew Koontz and Lucy Walter, Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello, and Mercer County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky.
After a short explanation of the history of town criers, Saperstein announced the swearing-in of John Hart, returning Republican Committeeman, and Kristin McLaughlin, a Democrat serving her first term as a Committee member. Hart was sworn in by Township Municipal Clerk Laurie Gompf, and McLaughlin was sworn in by Assemblywoman Muoio.
Mayor Kevin Kuchinski, nominated by Julie Blake, was voted by Committee unanimously, to serve another term as mayor. Julie Blake was nominated by John Hart to serve as Deputy Mayor and will be serving her first term after an unanimous vote.
Mayor Kuchinski spoke about issues affecting the community including property taxes, Township budget, fighting the PennEast Pipeline, and affordable housing, closing with, “In the year ahead, let’s identify opportunities to cut spending and reduce property taxes. Let’s strive to find common ground on other issues facing the Township, and work with our partners in the Boroughs and School District and at the County and State level to make Hopewell Valley an even better place to live.”
Township Administrator and Engineer, Paul Pogorzelski, has been appointed Interim Zoning Officer in the Hopewell Township Community Development Department.
