by Mary Galioto

Last night, June 2nd, Hopewell Borough Mayor Paul Anzano and the Council dedicated the train station’s community room  in memory of David H. Knights.

A Hopewell resident, former long-term Council president, historic preservation community activist, Knights’s “fingerprints [are] on all of the major projects and preservation efforts,” Borough Administrator Michele Hovan said. One of his loves was the train station in Hopewell Boro which has been so appropriately dedicated in his honor and memory.

ticketAt the event last night, Boro Administrator Michele Hovan sported a conductor’s vest and hat giving out commemorative  old-fashioned train tickets with the event name printed and the date hole-punched. Refreshments of popcorn and lemonade were served in a tented area next to the train station.

Among others, Hopewell Borough Mayor Paul Anzano and Council member David Mackie gave moving speeches in loving memory of Knights. And Knights’s three children recounted their own childhood memories of their father at the train station.

The program ended with an unveiling of the commemorative sign in keeping with the original architecture of the train station.
