Hopewell Valley YMCA and Macy’s team up to provide camp scholarships

by MercerMe Staff

This month, campers from Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Camp Reign visited the Macy’s store at Quaker Bridge Mall to deliver a personal “thank you” for Macy’s generation donation of $1,346 to the Hopewell Valley YMCA. The donation went specifically to provide camp scholarships, for families in need of financial assistance, to attend Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Camp Reign.

In a show of appreciation, YMCA campers and staff joined YMCA board members and Macy’s staff at the Quaker Bridge Macy’s, on their way to their weekly camp field trip, to present hand-made “thank you” banners and plenty of big smiles.

Hopewell Valley YMCA regularly seeks out support from donors and community partners, such as Macy’s, to provide subsidies and scholarships for all programs and services throughout the year including summer camp, before- and after-school child care, and youth sports programs. Last year, the Hopewell Valley YMCA distributed $75,000 in financial assistance to families that might not otherwise be able to take part in Y community programming.

“We are grateful to Macy’s for their efforts to give back to our community and support our YMCA’s charitable mission” said Hopewell Valley YMCA board president, Ryan Kennedy. “Donations to the Y go directly toward helping families in the Hopewell Valley who need financial assistance with child care, summer camp and our other programs. Corporate partners like Macy’s allow us to support our community through our teen center, our Special Olympics programming, mental health first-aid training classes, afterschool enrichment and so much more.  I cannot thank them enough!”

Macy’s contribution is part of a national partnership.  In May of 2017, as part of their Celebrate Summer Campaign, Macy’s across the country held in store promotions to raise money in support of YMCA summer camp scholarship programs nationwide.

The Hopewell Valley YMCA would like to extend its thanks to Macy’s and their shoppers, on behalf of kids in the Hopewell Valley and across the country, who were given the gift of camp this summer to play, explore and discover new experiences.
