Lawrence Township Police Receives Accreditation

by MercerMe Staff

The Lawrence Township Police Department received their Certificate of Accreditation issued by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police at the Township Council meeting, on April 4, 2017.

Accredited status represents a significant professional achievement. Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.

A team of trained professionals visited the Lawrence Township Police Department on October 16 and 17, 2016 and conducted a comprehensive on-site assessment. The assessors inspected the Police Department, interviewed employees and held a public information call-in session to determine if the Department met the requirements of accreditation.

In a statement issued by Harry Delgado, the Accreditation Program Director for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, he stated: “The Lawrence Township Police Department met or exceeded the standards necessary to be awarded Accreditation status.”

Delgado also stated that based upon the assessors’ findings, he would label the police department as exemplary. He went on to further explain that after reviewing the on-site assessment report, there were a few noteworthy performance issues. First, Delgado identified that the agency’s evidence function is very detailed and organized, and that the temporary storage of evidence, including areas for bulk storage items and an on-site impound yard, provide best practice models for police agencies in the State of New Jersey. Finally, during the agency’s on-site call in session, the Department received overwhelming support from residents, public figures and neighboring law enforcement agencies. The common theme of all contacts with the Department was professionalism and the ability of the agency to address community concerns and build strong working relationships with the public and other law enforcement entities to provide excellent service.

Lawrence Township Mayor Dr. David Maffei said, “I am proud of the Police Department and the professionalism displayed by the officers on a daily basis. Their hard work has kept Lawrence Township a safe place to live, work and play.”

Chief Mark Ubry would like to thank all the members of the Lawrence Township Police Department for their efforts during the accreditation process. A special thanks to Accreditation Manager, Lt. Brian Caloiaro for his continuous pursuit of quality improvement.
