Letter to the Editor: Matthews asks for your vote for HVRSD BOE

by Community Contributor

Each Hopewell Township Committee candidate and Hopewell Valley Regional School District Board of Education candidate was invited to submit a final letter to the MercerMe editor.

To the Editor:

Over the past few months, I have been humbled and honored to have had so many members of the community reach out to me to discuss the direction for the district in the coming years—allowing me to share my opinions and approaches to some of the issues that our district will face. Through attending some most recent school board retreats and meetings as a member of the community, I have also been happy to learn that the climate on the current school board is productive, with an environment that encourages fresh ideas and collegial decision making—something that if elected, I would be sure to continue.

As a former board member of a K-12 school in New York, I have seen how policy decisions can impact schools, students and their communities. As a father of 3 young children, I have a vested interest in the continued success of our public schools. Meanwhile my education and professional business experience allows me to bring a disciplined voice to the board as it pertains to how our tax dollars are deployed.

If elected to the HVRSD school board, I want to ensure that our school district maintains both the high academic standards and co-curricular activities that allow students to thrive. I believe in encouraging students to be engaged community members who value one another’s differences in a diverse and interconnected world. Importantly, I wish to see our students equipped with the skills to be successful in a 21st century economy.

I respectfully ask for your support, and request your joining me in support of Alyce Murray and Adam Sawicki, on November 7th. Please join me in voting for 1H, 2H and 4H, for fresh ideas, experience and leadership for our Board of Education.

Darius Matthews (1H)
