If you’ve traveled down South Main Street in Pennington Borough lately, you’ve probably seen the big orange road signs up announcing street closures coming next week. The Mercer County Department of Transportation is undertaking a resurfacing project South Main Street between Ingleside Avenue and Route 31 in Pennington beginning on or about Wednesday June 25, 2014.

The hours of construction will be 9:00 am until 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday. The project is expected to take 14 working days to complete.

During construction, the following sequence of traffic operations is proposed:

Milling Operations:
The southbound direction will remain open. Northbound South Main Street will be closed to through traffic at Route 31 and Pennington Lawrenceville Road.

Resurfacing Operations:
Stage 1- Both directions of South Main Street from the Pennington Circle to Pennington Lawrenceville Road will be closed to through traffic. Southbound traffic will be directed to turn left on Pennington Lawrenceville Road, then right onto Blackwell Road. Northbound traffic will be directed to continue north on Route 31 to Ingleside Avenue.

Stage 2- Both directions of South Main Street from Pennington Lawrenceville Road to Ingleside Avenue will be closed to through traffic. Southbound motorists will be directed to turn right onto Ingleside Avenue, right onto Burd Street, left onto East Delaware Avenue, and then left onto Southbound Route 31. Signs will be posted advising South Main Street is closed at Ingleside Avenue and to use East Delaware Avenue directly. South Main Street will be closed to northbound through traffic at the Pennington Circle. Northbound motorists will then be directed to continue north on Route 31 to Ingleside Avenue.
