Spotlight: Girl Scout Project Feeding Passion for Community Service

by Mary Galioto

Hopewell area 8th grader, Sarah Cleveland, of Hopewell Valley Girl Scout Troop 70175, is conducting a food drive in conjunction with her Silver Award project, with the Silver Award being the second highest award that a Girl Scout can earn.  A Silver Award project incorporates community service, leadership, planning, and budgeting.

She is now collecting food donations to provide ingredients used in the recipes: pasta, rice, canned pumpkin, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oil, seasonings, etc.  She will assemble meal kits that include her “Caring Cookbook” and ingredients, then distribute the kits to individuals and families in need through Mercer Street Friends.

For more information or to donate, please visit Sarah’s website www.caringcookbooks.weebly.com.  Please leave nonperishable food donations in the collection box by the exit at the Pennington Market.
