Trenton Man Charged with Murder in Recent Shooting

A 37 year old Trenton man has been charged with last week’s shooting death of Jonathan Jimenez, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.

Alberto A. Perez (DOB 6/18/79) of Anderson Street, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was served his complaints on Tuesday afternoon at the prosecutor’s office before being returned to the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell where he was being held on warrants after being remanded this weekend. Bail on the homicide was set at $750,000 cash or bond. The charges are a result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.

At approximately 10:30pm on August 5, Trenton police officers were dispatched to the area of 35 Cummings Avenue on the report of a shooting in progress. The victim, later identified as 25 year old Jimenez, was found lying in the street unconscious and unresponsive, suffering a gunshot wound through the chest. Jimenez was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The homicide remains under investigation. Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
