My first Fitness Friday post of 2014 is a doozy!!  Let’s be real: if you would have told me 2 years ago that I’d be blogging about my commitment to workouts and my ongoing obsession with the random internet celebrities that I refer to as “My Trainers” I would have punched you in the throat. 

But here we are!  It’s 2014!  And I’m kicking off the year with a renewed commitment to my fitness and health and overall well-being.  And since you know I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions, I’m not going to bore you with a list of random and meaningless (unattainable) goals about losing weight and quitting hot dogs and being a better person.  I’m just saying that I’m renewing my commitment to doing what I know I can do.  Working out when I can, making appropriate food choices, not flipping off the driver next to me when my girls are in the car.  Little things.  And so I drop an F-bomb or twenty?  The world will keep on turning and we’ll try again tomorrow.

But back to Fitness Friday.   I’ve set my sights on a few things to keep me motivated over the next few blurry, wintry weeks:

  • I’m joining the Tone It Up “Love Your Body” challenge which is six FREE weeks of #TIUteam workouts and tips and motivation.  I did it last year, and thought it was a great way to start the year.
  • At the same time, My Trainers (YES!  I did it again!) debut their new Bravo TV series “Toned Up” and I’ll be recapping the episodes here and on Twitter.
  • I have a drawer filled with brand spankin’ new fitness clothes (seriously, they are like spanx, and I love them) and now my confidence is THIS BIG.
  • I’m rocking some new running shoes (selected by my 3-year-old and they are PURPLE!).
  • I’m back to drinking my greens.  A month of green smoothies.  No matter what, every day, down the hatch.

I managed to get in a few quality workouts over the holiday “break” – and I use that term loosely, because there was really no “break” thankyouverymuchcorporateamerica.  And even though I definitely enjoyed myself and indulged in the holiday eating and drinking – I didn’t gain too many holiday cookies around my middle, so there’s that.  Really, now that I’m looking this over, the only real goal on this list is the green smoothie challenge.  Everything else is related to getting dressed and watching TV.  Pretty sure I can handle this.

In other news, the Tone It Up girls have a new show on Bravo that premiered  last night – and since I’ve never been one to turn down a Bravo show, um, ever – I figured that makes me qualified to recap and hopefully turn you guys onto my obsession.  Bravo sets up the show:

Karena Dawn and Katrina Hodgson have taken the web by storm with their website which receives over 1.8 million unique visitors a month and over 600 twitter mentions per hour. Although the two are business partners, they are also best friends, roommates, and much more. Making no apologies for who they are, these women use their “yoga smarts” to push themselves and their brand to wild extremes. Whether they are speaking in their special language of “meows” or debating the merits of bug propellant, the dynamic duo have created an exercise revolution that has already inspired millions.

When The Coach and I sat down to watch this last night he was so confused (YES!  I made him watch it.  He loves me more for it.  He does.)  Unless you have some background – their lifestyle is really confusing.  For starters – we identify them as “Blondie” and “Brown Hair” (Katrina and Karena, respectively).  And they live together.  As roomate-sister-friends that are probably making more money than all of us.

The first episode detailed the girls’ efforts to plan a meet up in Long Beach, CA – they invited TIU members to a group workout on the beach, but forgot to give everyone the address… The show provided a few clips of behind the scenes planning and introduced some of their staff.  If you’ve been following along – you know that, although the girls do have a staff, they actually do a lot of their social media management themselves and they really control their brand and image.  It was silly and funny and I don’t think The Coach will be watching any future episodes.  But I will!

Also a transplant to New Jersey and Mercer County, Merritt McGlynn is walking a tightrope between career woman and devoted mother: hanging on for dear life with her dishpan hands.
