Arts Council Presents Unique Jazz Concert, Art: The Language of Expression Colors of Jazz

by Mary Galioto

The Hopewell Valley Arts Council, presenters of last summer’s public art Stampede of 69 life-sized, decorated oxen, now announces another unique event with a concert titled “Art: The Language of Expression – Colors of Jazz.”  Recognizing that art informs and inspires, Art: The Language of Expression is a format for presenting and mixing creative mediums.  This first concert presents impressive jazz-with a twist.

On Sunday, November 15, the highly acclaimed jazz pianist Steve Rudolph will perform as part of the Steve Rudolph/Hendrik Meurkens Quartet, performing a blend of jazz classics and contemporary works.  As the Quartet plays, Hopewell graphic designer and illustrator, Emily Muschinske, will create three paintings inspired by the music at her easel.

This unique interdisciplinary event begins at 3:00 pm in the beautiful and acoustically excellent Washington Crossing Unitarian Church near Titusville, NJ.  This concert with a twist exemplifies the Council’s mission to “celebrate art in the everyday” and its commitment to doing so with flair.

Steve Rudolph has been making music for over 40 years, beginning notably with an early stint with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.  Steve has travelled the region, country and abroad performing in a wide range of styles, both as a soloist and with a variety of ensembles.  He has played with a litany of jazz greats, released eleven CDs, and been a powerful force in promoting jazz throughout Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.  Jazz Improv magazine states, “Rudolph is a savvy, swinging, glimmering heavyweight…simply outstanding.”

It’s music and art brought together for a bit of improvisational fun, set in the comfortable Unitarian Church located on Washington Crossing–Pennington Road near Titusville, just 2 minutes from Rte. 29.
