The Lawrence Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit are investigating an attempted sexual assault that occurred late Tuesday evening in Lawrence Township.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in the 200 block of Bakers Basin Road. The adult female victim was approached as she attempted to enter a residence. She attempted to flee and the suspect tackled her on the roadway, dragged her off the road to a wooded area along Bakers Basin Road in the vicinity of the Delaware & Raritan Canal, physically assaulted her and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to fight off her attacker and run to a nearby business where employees called the police.

Police have increased patrol in the area after the incident.
