by Mary Galioto

This September, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County will be opening a new community center at 1040 Spruce Street in Lawrence Township. Centrally located between Lawrence and Ewing, the new Boys & Girls Club will provide a wide variety of programs for Mercer County area youth and families.

The 35,000 square foot facility, located next to Halo Farms and Trenton Farms Market, will feature: a gymnasium; teen and technology centers; a professional teaching kitchen and cafe; karate, dance and art studios; career and STEM centers; and numerous adaptable classrooms.

“We are very excited about the variety of programs and activities for youth and teens at the Boys & Girls Clubs new community center opening up on Spruce Street this September,” said Marci Rubin, Executive Director of the Lawrence Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County. “Our programs are mission driven to provide opportunities for youth and teens to grow intellectually, emotionally, socially and developmentally. With the new facility, we will double our current enrollment and serve 4000 youth and teens in the Mercer County Area.”

A number of community organizations have partnered with Boys & Girls Club to offer a wide diversity of programs including the Rech Center for Performing Arts, Artworks Trenton, Bricks4Kidz, KickQuest Marital Arts, Music Together, Youth Stages, NJTL of Trenton, Bucks County Academy of fencing, and Rutgers 4-H Youth Development of Mercer County.

Licensed preschool program for 2 ½ to 5 year olds, will start half day in September and full day options will be available starting in January. Professional Staff will instruct preschoolers through a diverse curriculum of art, music, computers, sports, cooking and educational enrichment programs. Preschools will be able to utilize our state of the art facility including the dance, gymnastics, STEM center, Art Studio and various classrooms.
