Burglary Investigation Leads to Arrest in Hopewell Township

by Mary Galioto

An investigation by Hopewell Township Police Department has led to charges for a burglary that occurred last November in the parking lot of the Hopewell Crossing Shopping Center.

On November 29, 2014 at approximately 11:20 PM, Officer Nicholas Sparaco responded to the Hopewell Crossing Shopping Center for the report of a car burglary. It was reported that sometime between 10:00 PM and 10:10 PM someone had entered an unlocked car in the parking lot. When the owner returned to the car, his cell phone and wallet were missing. The total loss was estimated to be over $600.00.

Further investigation by Detective Frank Tulko found that some of the victim’s personal items, including a credit card and an insurance card, were located in an Asbury neighborhood (Warren County) and had been turned into the Washington Township New Jersey State Police barracks on December 1, 2014. A copy of a criminal complaint with the perpetrator’s name on it was also turned in with the recovered property.

On February 19, 2015 Detective Tulko spoke with the suspect who was lodged at the Cumberland County Jail on an unrelated matter. After speaking, Detective Tulko charged him with burglary and theft.

The charges against the individual will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
