Capital Philharmonic to Perform Traditional New Year’s Eve Concert

by Mary Galioto

The Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey will be bringing in the New Year as it presents one of this area’s most treasured traditions — the annual New Year’s Eve concert at the War Memorial Patriots Theater on Sunday, December 31 at 8:00 pm. Highlights of this year’s program will be a performance of Paul Dukas’ “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” made famous by Mickey Mouse in the Disney Movie “Fantasia,” and “Tango” from the movie “Scent of a Woman” as arranged by John Williams and with violin soloist Meichen Barnes. The evening’s festivities will be hosted by WWFM radio personality David Osenberg.

Other works on this exuberant program will be “Silver Fanfare” by Peter Boyer, “The Skater’s Waltz” by Emile Waldteufel, “Two Slavonic Dances” by Anton Dvorak, “The Merry Wives of Sindsor” by Otto Niccolai, and “Syncopated Clock” by Leroy Anderson. The concert will close, as every year, with the music of George Gershwin as used in Hollywood movies. Music Director and Conductor Daniel Spalding also promises some surprises on this year’s concert.

As a special added treat, there will be a pre-concert commencing at 7:10 featuring the War Memorial’s famous Moeller Theater Organ. For more information visit www.capitalphilharmonic.org.
