Community Day Music Festival and Beer Garden to Be Held at St. Michael’s Preserve

by Mary Galioto
While Hopewell Borough’s traditional Block Party is taking a year off, festival-lovers can enjoy this year’s 7-hour Community Day Music Festival to be held in honor of the Borough’s 125th anniversary of incorporation. The event will be on Saturday, June 18, from 4-11 p.m. at St. Michael’s Preserve, courtesy of the D&R Greenway Land Trust.

For the first portion of the evening, between 4pm-7pm, admission is free and includes children’s music and crafts, Amazon bounce house, self-guided tours and nature events.
And from 7pm on, ticket purchasers can enjoy a variety of handcrafted and specialty beers and wine at The Hopewell Community Day Festival Biergarten (Beer Garden), for adults 21 and older. Tickets cost $20 per person. All proceeds will go to the 125th Anniversary Events Fund and to help repaint the Hopewell Railroad Station on Railroad Place.
“St. Michaels Farm Preserve, at the edge of Hopewell Borough, is the perfect place to hold this event, with its 340 acres of beautiful fields, woods and nature trails and its important community history,” says event coordinator Deb Stuhler. “Families can kick back and relax, celebrating the borough’s heritage as well as the recent history of saving this magnificent property, keeping it as an important place where families can enjoy nature and the outdoors—and all while rocking out to some of the most legendary musicians of the region.”

Preserved in 2010 through a community-wide effort, St. Michaels Farm Preserve was once the site of an orphanage operated by the Catholic Diocese of Trenton. Part preserved farmland and part preserved for recreational use, St. Michaels is home to nearly 100 bird species, including 11 species of warbler, the Indigo bunting, rose-breasted grosbeak and scarlet tanager. Hawks cruise the fields looking for voles and mice, kestrels live in the vicinity of the barn, a great blue and a little green heron have been seen along the creek and sparrows and finches frequent the fields.

The JUNE 18 events will include:

4 to 4:10 p.m., Hopewell Valley Children’s Chorale;
4:15 to 4:45 p.m., Vox Central Jazz;
