Counselor at Bo Robinson Treatment Center arrested for attempted drug distribution

The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force concluded a month-long investigation Sunday with the arrest of a counselor employed by the Albert M. (Bo) Robinson Treatment Center in Trenton, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.

Just before 5 p.m. on August 14, Joshua Cruz met with an undercover officer after indicating his willingness to smuggle drugs into the treatment center for a monetary fee. Surveillance officers observed Cruz arrive at the pre-arranged location in his 1994 Honda Accord and exit his vehicle. Cruz entered the car of the undercover officer and was provided with a quantity of inert cocaine and heroin along with his fee of $500 in cash. When Cruz exited the vehicle, he was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation was conducted by the Mercer County Narcotics Task Force, under the command of Lt. James Francis. Officers with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Department of Corrections – Special Investigations Division, and the Hamilton and Trenton police assisted.

Cruz, age 24, a Trenton resident, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute and conspiracy. His bail was set at $50,000 cash or bond.

Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
