COVID-19 cases are spiking in the country, in New Jersey, in Mercer County, and in the Hopewell Valley. As Governor Murphy wrote on his Facebook page yesterday:
“Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Social distance. Use common sense. These things crushed the curve once and can do it again. But only if we all make that commitment.”
According to the New York Times, on November 6 in one day, there was an increase of 132,797 new cases and 1,223 deaths due to COVID. Also according to the New York Times, the number of cases have reached record levels.
Locally, we have seen the following increases in the past week:
- HOPEWELL TWP: 137 cases last week; 142 this week – increase of 5 cases
- PENNINGTON: 26 cases 10/22; 27 cases this week – increase of 1 case
- HOPEWELL BORO: 7 cases 10/22; 10 cases this week – increase of 3 cases
- MERCER COUNTY: 9,379 cases; 9774 cases this week – increase of 395 cases
- NJ: 237,886 cases; 249,380 cases this week – increase of 11,494 cases
This is very different from statistics during the summer when the number of new cases was relatively flat. For instance, the graph below shows what the numbers looked like in July:
