Critical injuries result from car crash on Route 31

On Monday, July 19 at approximately 2:45pm, the Hopewell Township Police Department was dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash on Pennington Road (Route 31) near Diverty Road. Officers arrived on scene and found that the driver of a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was trapped in her vehicle and seriously injured due to a collision with a 2013 Honda CR-V.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the 2013 Honda CR-V, a 20-year-old from Pennington, was traveling northbound on Pennington Road. He crossed the solid double yellow line markings and entered the southbound lane of travel on Pennington Road heading northbound. As he entered the southbound lane of travel, he struck the 2010 Hyundai Elantra head-on. 

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra sustained serious injuries and was transported to Capital Health in Trenton by the Pennington First Aid Squad. The identity of the driver of the Hyundai Elantra is being withheld and will be released at a later time. The driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries and was transported to Capital Health Hopewell Hospital by the Ewing Township Emergency Medical Services.   

The crash remains under investigation by Officer George Peterson and Detective Mark Panzano. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Detective Mark Panzano at 609-737-3100 ext. 5810.
