Hopewell Council of Churches Hosts “Empty Bowls” Dinner to Benefit TASK
Raising Hunger Awareness One Bowl at a Time
The Hopewell Borough Council of Churches will host a fundraising “Empty Bowls” dinner to benefit Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) on Saturday, April 27 from 5 pm -7 pm at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, located at 80 W. Broad Street, Hopewell.
Hunger and homelessness is often a silent problem. According to Feeding America, 40 million Americans struggle with hunger, the same as the number of people officially living in poverty.
Hunger can affect people from all walks of life. Many Americans are one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity – but some people, including children and seniors, may be at greater risk of hunger than others.
“We are focusing on hunger during Lent as a way of connecting with Jesus’ call for us to be in ministry to all God’s people,” says Pastor Laura Steele of Hopewell United Methodist Church, one of the member churches of the Council. The group of churches also includes: Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Second Calvary Baptist Church, St. Alphonse R.C. Church.
The fundraising and awareness event will feature a simple supper of soup, bread, and dessert. You may have your soup served in handmade ceramic bowls and keep the bowl. Ticket cost: $35 adults, $20 for children 12 and under; Free for children 3 and under. Tickets will be available at the door.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).
If you would like to donate ceramic bowls or volunteer, contact: email@example.com
The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) is a private, non-sectarian, charitable organization that depends almost entirely on the help of dedicated volunteers and generous financial support from individuals, churches, local businesses and community organizations.
