Recycling Won’t Save Us: What We Can Learn from the Zero Waste Movement
Tuesday, April 20, 7-8 pm
For the last several decades, we have been led to believe that recycling is one of the best environmental choices we can make. But what if recycling does not solve the problem of waste, but actually encourages us to generate more trash? What if our current systems of recycling are broken? The Zero Waste movement has emerged as a possible answer to these concerns. What can we learn from focusing on waste reduction instead of recycling? And what are ways that we can begin to take steps to eliminate waste in our own daily lives? Join HVCHS teachers Nick Johnson and Carolyn McGrath for a discussion about the limits of recycling and how we can all move towards making and advocating for more sustainable choices. This presentation will include information and resources on how to conduct a home waste audit.
