Observatory (2020): Documentary Screening and Discussion

August 19 @ 7:00 pm

The spring and early summer of 2020 brought something unprecedented in our lives – a pandemic lockdown. We may vividly remember those times or push the memory aside. We had the collective experience, but still – we had our individual responses to it.

What did Gaspar Bakos, a professor at the Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University, do? He bought a $40 motion-sensor camera and started recording with his three energetic boys the enchanting world of Mercer County wildlife – some of it widely known, but some of it daring to reveal its secrets in those times of silence and human absence.

This material was used by Jared Flesher, owner of the video production company Hundred Year Films and a communications specialist at the Princeton University Office of Sustainability to produce the short documentary Observatory. Join us for a virtual screening of the documentary followed by a discussion with Jared Flesher to learn more about the making of the film, the wildlife of Mercer County and to hear his insights about our human interaction with local nature.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Library.
