Stories of Slavery in New Jersey (virtual)
June 13 @ 7:00 pm
On Monday, June 13, 7pm, author Rick Geffken reveals stories from New Jersey’s history of slavery.
June 19th, also known as Juneteenth, is the oldest known holiday that commemorates the end of slavery. It marks the date in 1865 when the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned that they were free under the Emancipation Proclamation. As a federal holiday, it is a time to time to reflect on the past and look to the future.
