SUMMARY:Stewarding with Stories: Sustaining Fish and Community on Lewis Island
DESCRIPTION:Just in time for shad season\, join us on May 28th at 7:30 PM via Zoom for an illustrated lecture by folklorist Dr. Charlie Groth.  Dr. Groth invites you to step into the world of the Lewis Fishery — the last remaining commercial traditional haul-seine fishery on the non-tidal Delaware River.  After a brief introduction to the haul seine method and fishery history\, Groth will share how various story types at the fishery interweave to support community and natural resources. \nDon’t miss this rare window into a living piece of American folklife\, where tradition\, storytelling\, and the seasons still move together.  \nPresenter Bio: \nLambertville resident\, Charlie Groth\, PhD\, began studying the Lewis Fishery in 1996 as part of her folklore and folklife doctoral studies and has continued working as a fishery crew member ever since.
