SUMMARY:Teen Labyrinth Class with Local Artist Karen McLean
DESCRIPTION:This class for teens (11+) takes place over 2 sessions\, on November 14th and 21st\, from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. \nThe LABYRINTH or MAZE is a complex\, usually geometric design\, a confusing series of paths or spaces leading to a center. It is one of the most ancient and mysterious symbols in history and has taken many different forms. A very famous example of a labyrinth centers on the Minotaur\, a legendary creature in Greek Mythology with the body of a man and the head of a bull. We will start the class by reading this story after which students will design their own versions of the Minotaur and various labyrinths. \nPaper and materials will be provided. \nRegister on our website.

SUMMARY:The Colonial Mindset and The Revolutionary War Presented by Dr. Susan Craig
DESCRIPTION:When the celebrations of July 4\, 1776\, faded\, New Jerseyans confronted a sobering reality: the prospect of all-out war. On Wednesday\, November 4\, at 7:30 PM\, join us via Zoom as Dr. Susan Craig explores in this Heritage Lecture how the philosophical and legal ideals behind the Declaration of Independence collided with the fear and aggression of the war’s opening months. \nThose high-minded principles went on to shape the governing structures of the newly independent states\, particularly in the mid-Atlantic region\, even as the conflict spread from New York into New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Along the way\, a new generation of Americans grappled with mounting economic pressure and growing danger. \nPresenter Bio: \nDr. Susan Craig earned a B.A. in economics from Arizona State University\, an M.A. in U.S. and Latin American history from Queens College\, as well as a Ph.D. in U.S. cultural history from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She formerly served as adjunct lecturer in U.S. history at Queens College\, Queensborough Community College and the College of Staten Island. She taught subjects including the founding of British North America\, the American Revolution\, the U.S. Civil War and World War I. She is a member of the Organization of American Historians\, the American Historical Association\, and the American Society of Church History. \nFree Registration: https://tinyurl.com/Colonial-Mindset \nAbout DRGP \nThe Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP) periodically sponsors lectures about different aspects of the Delaware River’s cultural\, recreational\, and natural heritage. An environmental nonprofit\, DRGP supports the Delaware River Scenic Byway\, the Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River\, the Delaware River Water Trail\, and the Delaware River Heritage Trail. \nTo view previous Heritage Lectures\, visit https://www.youtube.com/@delawarerivergp. \nIf you enjoy our Heritage Lectures\, please donate https://delawarerivergreenwaypartnership.org/index.php/donate. \nThank you to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources for financial support of the 2026 Heritage Lectures.

SUMMARY:Hoodwinked: A Magical History of Deception with Tommy White
DESCRIPTION:Tommy White’s fascination with magic began with an appreciation for story. After reading about Harry Houndini\, he was taken with the idea that any lock could be picked with a two inch piece of wire. By age 11\, Tommy was picking every lock he could get his hands on. In Hoodwinked: A Magical History of Deception\, Tommy warmly shares the legacy of modern magic as he inherited it from imaginative entertainers and inventors who came before him. You’ll laugh\, gasp\, question what you thought you knew about reality\, and gain a new appreciation for the art of magic. While young people are welcome to attend\, please note that this is not a children’s magic show. Recommended for audiences 7+. \nAbout Tommy White:\nHoned over thousands of performances aboard Carnival Cruise Line and refined through more than a decade of relentless practice and study\, Tommy White’s sleight-of-hand is razor-sharp and his wit even sharper. Tommy makes the impossible unforgettable.

SUMMARY:Guild for Early Music Annual Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Step Into the Past at Princeton Public Library’s Free Early Music Showcase \nPRINCETON\, N.J. — What would it sound like to step inside a medieval court\, a Renaissance salon or a Baroque concert hall? Visitors to the Princeton Public Library can find out Oct. 18 when the Guild for Early Music presents its annual free showcase\, “Sounds Literary.” \nFrom 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.\, seven Guild member ensembles will perform free\, 30-minute mini-concerts in the library’s Community Room. Audiences can drop in for one performance or stay for the entire afternoon as musicians bring the sounds of the Medieval\, Renaissance\, Baroque and Early American eras to life. \nThis year’s showcase marks the Guild’s new partnership with Princeton Public Library and features a special connection between music and literature. \nHopewell author Colby Cedar Smith\, whose young adult novel “The Siren and the Star” explores the life and music of Venetian composer Barbara Strozzi through poetry\, will read an excerpt from her work during the 1:30-2:00 performance. The a cappella ensemble Mostly Motets will complement the reading with music by Strozzi\, a prolific female composer whose work has gained increased recognition in recent years. \nThe afternoon’s performers also include Baroque’n Promises\, Highland Park Recorder Society\, La Fiocco\, Mostly Motets\, New Jersey Early Music\, The Practitioners of Musick and Riverview Early Music. \nThe showcase will conclude with one of the Guild’s most popular features: an instrumental “Petting Zoo” at 4 p.m. Music lovers of all ages will have the opportunity to see\, touch and\, in some cases\, try unusual historical instruments\, including the lute\, viola da gamba\, rebec\, gemshorn and hurdy-gurdy. \nThe event is not specifically designed for children\, but families are welcome to attend for as little or as much of the afternoon as they wish. \nPrinceton Public Library is located at 65 Witherspoon St. in downtown Princeton. Parking is available in the municipal garage on Spring Street and on many neighboring streets. \nThe Guild for Early Music’s showcase offers audiences a chance to discover the wide-ranging sounds of early music and experience history not just as something to read about\, but as something to hear. \n
