DESCRIPTION:Take a journey with author Amy Hollander on April 9th at 7:30 PM to explore her recent graphic novel\, Low Bridge\, Everybody Down\, which shares the real-life experiences of Jimmy Brown\, a black canal boat captain on the Delaware and Lehigh Canal in the early 1900s. Learn how Hollander crafted the story by combining Jimmy’s oral histories within the framework of local\, regional\, and national events\, and how she interwove her narrative with the vibrant art of Will Rosado to create a dynamic interplay of word and image — one that will engage the next generation of young readers with the diverse history of the Delaware and Lehigh Canal system. \n  \nSpeaker Bio: \nAmy Hollander is a lifelong storyteller with 20 years of experience as an educator and a museum professional in the tri-state area. Hollander encourages community-forward planning in her projects and has a successful record of developing and delivering powerful exhibits and engaging programs that bring underserved narratives to the forefront. Currently\, Amy is the Historic Resources Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department for the County of Bucks. In this capacity\, she authors a blog\, Bucks Bygone Byways\, that highlights the lives of everyday people\, places\, and objects from the past. \nWorking on Jimmy Brown’s life story has been an honor for the author. From the first listen of Jimmy’s recorded memories. Hollander was captivated by both Jimmy’s positive attitude\, despite the trials he endured\, and his determination to make a better life for himself against all odds. \n  \nFree Registration: https://shorturl.at/WVFBY \n  \nAbout DRGP \nThe Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP) sponsors lectures about different aspects of the Delaware River’s cultural\, recreational\, and natural heritage. SUMMARY:Grand Homes & Gardens: Middleton Place
DESCRIPTION:Blending history\, architecture\, and horticulture\, this year’s Grand Homes & Gardens speaker series\, Freedom at Home: Telling the Full Story of America’s Founding Homes and Gardens\, showcases the estates of signers of the Declaration of Independence\, telling the stories of the people who lived and worked in these grand spaces.  \nOn April 16\, Morven welcomes Brandon Stone (Director Research and Preservation) for an illustrated presentation on Middleton Place in Charleston\, SC\, the primary home of Declaration signer Arthur Middleton. More than 2\,800 men\, women\, and children were enslaved by the Middleton family from 1738 to 1865. The estate was heavily impacted by the Civil War when Union troops razed most of the property. The plantation’s extensive and transformative gardens\, established in the 1740s\, were awarded the Garden Club of America’s highest honor\, the Bulkley Medal\, in 1941. \nDoors open at 6 pm for light refreshments.\n \nThe 2026 Grand Homes & Gardens speaker series is sponsored by Bryn Mawr Trust. This program is sponsored by Corcoran Sawyer Smith. \n  \n

SUMMARY:In Conversation with Author Ted Chiang
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 16\, 2026 @ 7 PM via Zoom \nTed Chiang has become a definitive voice in speculative fiction\, captivating readers with his award-winning collections Stories of Your Life and Others and Exhalation. He possesses a masterful ability to bridge the gap between rigorous scientific inquiry and the profound depths of human emotion. His work serves as a modern exploration of the “what if\,” often using our evolving relationship with technology to challenge our understanding of free will\, memory\, and consciousness. These stories resonate because they grapple with the fundamental questions of what it means to be sentient in an evolving universe. In this keynote\, Chiang will discuss various themes found in Exhalation: Stories\, with a focus on the persistence of wonder and how shifting the lens of logic can fundamentally alter our perspective on the nature of existence. \nSponsored by the Hopewell Valley Regional School District and the Friends of the Pennington Library

SUMMARY:Worlds from Thin Air: An Intro to Speculative Improv
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 19\, 2026 @ 1:00 – 2:30 PM \nCreating stories can be challenging\, and it might seem even more challenging to go beyond the page when you are writing in real time on the stage. How do people do this in improvised theater?\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from the ‘What If?’ nature of speculative fiction (like Ted Chiang’s Exhalation)\, we’ll explore how simple questions can build extraordinary worlds. Come learn how to take a single idea and\, through collaboration\, see where the logic of that world takes you. In this workshop\, come to learn and build on basics of improv theater with a focus on the collaborative\, creative experience. All are welcome! \nAbout the Presenter: Child’s Play Improv is a troupe whose home is at Princeton University. The student-run troupe  provides a place where people can learn to enjoy and improve their skills at improv\, and make this craft more accessible to others. We host workshops a few times each winter and fall at many venues\, and host university shows four times a year. To keep up with us and our workshops\, you can find us on Instagram @childsplayimprovofficial. \nThis event is part of our 2026 Beyond the Page – an initiative designed to broaden our imaginations and understanding of our world\, our neighbors\, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.  The featured book Exhalation contains nine stunningly original\, provocative\, and poignant stories\, where author Ted Chiang tackles some of humanity’s oldest questions\, along with new quandaries only he could imagine.
