SUMMARY:Hoodwinked: A Magical History of Deception with Tommy White
DESCRIPTION:Tommy White’s fascination with magic began with an appreciation for story. After reading about Harry Houndini\, he was taken with the idea that any lock could be picked with a two inch piece of wire. By age 11\, Tommy was picking every lock he could get his hands on. In Hoodwinked: A Magical History of Deception\, Tommy warmly shares the legacy of modern magic as he inherited it from imaginative entertainers and inventors who came before him. You’ll laugh\, gasp\, question what you thought you knew about reality\, and gain a new appreciation for the art of magic. While young people are welcome to attend\, please note that this is not a children’s magic show. Recommended for audiences 7+. \nAbout Tommy White:\nHoned over thousands of performances aboard Carnival Cruise Line and refined through more than a decade of relentless practice and study\, Tommy White’s sleight-of-hand is razor-sharp and his wit even sharper. Tommy makes the impossible unforgettable.

SUMMARY:The Colonial Mindset and The Revolutionary War Presented by Dr. Susan Craig
DESCRIPTION:When the celebrations of July 4\, 1776\, faded\, New Jerseyans confronted a sobering reality: the prospect of all-out war. On Wednesday\, November 4\, at 7:30 PM\, join us via Zoom as Dr. Susan Craig explores in this Heritage Lecture how the philosophical and legal ideals behind the Declaration of Independence collided with the fear and aggression of the war’s opening months. \nThose high-minded principles went on to shape the governing structures of the newly independent states\, particularly in the mid-Atlantic region\, even as the conflict spread from New York into New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Along the way\, a new generation of Americans grappled with mounting economic pressure and growing danger. \nPresenter Bio: \nDr. Susan Craig earned a B.A. in economics from Arizona State University\, an M.A. in U.S. and Latin American history from Queens College\, as well as a Ph.D. in U.S. cultural history from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She formerly served as adjunct lecturer in U.S. history at Queens College\, Queensborough Community College and the College of Staten Island. She taught subjects including the founding of British North America\, the American Revolution\, the U.S. Civil War and World War I. SUMMARY:Mudman: Poems for Moving Forward After Loss
DESCRIPTION:Join local author Jane McKinley as she reads from Mudman\, her new collection of poems\, a finalist for the Able Muse Book Award. SUMMARY:Richard Stockton: Myth and Reality
DESCRIPTION:Was Richard Stockton a patriot or traitor? Join Morven’s curators\, Elizabeth Allan and Jesse Gordon Simons\, as they dive into his disputed past\, sharing new research and perspectives uncovered during the making of the museum’s 250th anniversary exhibition Five Independent Souls: The Signers from New Jersey. They will be joined in conversation with educator and writer John Baxter\, author of the new book\, Richard Stockton: Character Under Fire. \nStockton presents perhaps one of the most contested legacies of Declaration of Independence signers. In-person tickets include discounted\, after-hours admission to Five Independent Souls: The Signers from New Jersey from 5-6 pm prior to the talk.  \nThe event is sponsored by Princeton Federal Credit Union.  \nImage: Richard Stockton\, (1730–1781)\, late 19th century to early 20th century.
