Fire and Toxic Release Alarm Sounded, Hopewell Emergency Personnel Respond

by Mary Galioto

On Tuesday August 4, 2015 at approximately 8:18pm, the Hopewell Township Police Department, along with the Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit responded to UTC Aerospace, located at 330 Carter Road, for a fire alarm activation. Upon arrival officers were informed by employees that a toxic gas alarm had activated in the main lab area. The employees then activated the main fire alarm and exited the building.

Chief Joseph Novak of the Hopewell Fire Department arrived on scene and assumed incident command and requested the assistance of the Trenton Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Team. Upon their arrival, entry was made to the lab area and the cause of the toxic gas release alarm was determined to be a faulty detector. The Pennington First Aid Squad assisted the Hopewell Fire Department Emergency Medical Unit on scene.

No hazardous materials were released during the incident. There were no injuries reported.
