This afternoon,* the Hopewell Township Police Department, along with the Hopewell Fire Department, responded to a Model Avenue address for the report of a structure fire. This structure is a two story row home type building that consists of four separate dwellings.
The fire was called in by a resident after smoke was noticed coming from the rear of one of the dwellings. Officers arrived to find smoke coming from the rafters of the structure.
The Hopewell Fire Department, under the command of Battalion Chief Rob Myers, along with the Pennington Fire Company, Union Fire Company and Rescue, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, Lawrenceville Fire Department, Lawrence Road Fire Company, and the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company #2 assisted with fighting the fire.
The Hopewell Rescue Squad and the Pennington First Aid Squad also assisted at the scene.
The two center dwellings suffered fire damage, as well as heat, smoke and water damage. They were deemed uninhabitable. The residents in the two outer dwellings were allowed to return their homes.
While the fire appears to be accidental in nature, this incident remains under investigation by Hopewell Township Police Department Detective Frank Tulko, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services personnel and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Model Avenue was closed to traffic during fire-fighting operations.
There were no reported injuries on scene.
