Five HVCHS Athletes to Play Division 1 College Sports

by Mary Galioto

Five student athletes from Hopewell Valley Central High School signed their NLIs (“National Letter of Intent”) to play Division 1 college sports.

For football:

  • Lorenzo Bryant – College of Rhode Island,
  • Mike Gies – Lehigh University,
  • Drew Wiley – Villanova University, and
  • Patrick Rojvall – Shippensburg University.

The recruitment process started in August of last year until February at yesterday’s signing of the NLIs, binding agreements between the student and the institution. Last year, HVCHS saw no students go on to play Division 1.

“Football started 11 years ago in the district and this is a really nice achievement,” said HVRSD Athletic Director Tripp Becker. “Coach Dave Caldwell is doing a phenomenal job of teaching not just the x’s and o’s but also life skills. And he was with the kids the whole time through this process.”

Tonight there will be a showing of a film called “Recruiting Realities” that highlights the recruiting process as well as its difficulties. 7PM at the Central High School Performing Arts Building.

Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches!
