From the County: Rt. 579 update

by Amie Rukenstein

MercerMe reached out to Julie Willmot, Director of Communications at Mercer County, to ask about the progress on the Rt. 579 pothole. The area of Rt. 579 known as Trenton-Harbourton Road, between Pennington-Harbourton Road and Woosamonsa Road, has been closed all weekend in anticipation of the County’s road crew coming to repair it.

Willmot responded: “Roadwork is always dependent on the cooperation of the weather and, as you know, the weekend was cold and icy and work could not be performed until today. The report from Mercer’s DOT confirms that a large area of the road has failed due to sitting water going through the freeze/thaw cycle. We shut down the roadway on Friday and, because it rained all day, our teams could not perform the blacktop work. We have a crew on site today and are hopeful to finish up today. Please note, we may need to close it again during the business hours tomorrow to finish up any outstanding work, but we will wait until after the morning rush so that traffic can get through.”
