Hello. I’m Michael Ruger from the Hopewell Township Committee with some notes about Township events happening this month.

May is Older Americans Month, and this year’s theme is “Communities of Strength.”  Our older friends, relatives and neighbors have done so much for our community—let’s be sure to take some time this month to thank them.

At the end of May we celebrate Memorial Day.  The Hopewell Valley Veterans Association will once again hold its ceremony virtually this year.  It will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

While more and more New Jersey residents are being vaccinated every day, COVID remains a threat.  If you need a vaccine, please visit the Hopewell Township website for resources.  And if you know some-one who does not have Internet access, they can call 855-568-0545 for more information.

The Hopewell Township Committee will meet on Monday, May 3 and Monday, May 17.  At our May 17 meeting, we’ll hold a public hearing on the 2021 budget.  Please come and ask questions.

Earlier this year, Governor Murphy signed legislation legalizing marijuana in New Jersey.  Under the terms of the legislation, municipalities have until August 21 to decide whether to opt out of some or all parts of the law.  We’ll hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 20, to see what you think.

And throughout the month, Hopewell Township’s many volunteer committees and commissions will be meeting.  Please visit the website, see if there is one that interests you, and consider attending.  They are all open to the public.

All of our meetings in May will be held by Zoom.  That means you can watch from home on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, or even dial in on a regular telephone.

Public Works will hold brush collection starting on May 3.  For more information, visit the Public Works section of the Hopewell Township website or call 609-537-0250.

And as summer approaches, be sure to check all the events that our Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled.

For updates on Hopewell Township news, please visit the website at www.hopewelltwp.org or the Face-book, Instagram or Twitter feeds.  You can also go to the website and sign up for news alerts.  And if you don’t have Internet access, you can call 609-737-0605 for more information.

That’s all for now.  Thanks for watching, and stay safe.
