Get to know: Andrea Driver for School Board

by Community Contributor

My name is Andrea Driver. I reside in Hopewell Township with my husband, Kevin, my two daughters, Hailey and Brooke, and my mother in law, Joyce. I have lived in the Hopewell Valley for most of my life. I attended Hopewell Elementary School, Timberlane Junior High School, and graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School in 1993. My family is well established in the area, having resided in the Valley for more than five generations.

After graduating from high school, I attended Rider University. There I majored in Elementary Education and Sociology, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 1997 and then became certified in Elementary Education N-8. I later returned to Rider and earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration in 2012. I currently hold certificates as an Educational Administrator and Supervisor. This September, I started my twenty-fourth year of teaching, with experiences in grades from Kindergarten to eighth grade.

I am currently running for a seat on the Hopewell Valley School Board. I hope to be offered the opportunity to support initiatives that instill a positive learning environment for all learners in our community. My wish is for all students to have a safe space to explore new and varied things in a meaningful and engaging way. I’d like to see curricular and co-curricular experiences centered around critical thinking and developing productive citizens within our community and beyond. I commit to maintaining transparency in matters of fiscal responsibility that impact both our school community and the community at large, while championing provisions focused on providing meaningful experiences for our young people. I understand the importance of community building and the value of input from all stakeholders, including those that do not have children enrolled in our schools.

I have two slate mates running for seats on the School Board as well, Anita Galiano Williams and Ross Gordon. Together we will bring diversified perspectives, experiences and skill sets which would enhance the board’s ability to usher everyone into conversation and meet the needs of a changing population. I invite all to join our weekly Zoom calls every Thursday night at 7pm. Check out our Facebook page @DGWG4HVRSD. And don’t forget to vote!
