Good Time Had By All at Pennington Day (PHOTOS)

by Community Contributor

Pennington Day was enjoyed by so many this year — great weather, in a great community. Pennington mayor, Joseph Lawver agrees:

“Norman Rockwell could not have imagined a better scene than Saturday’s Pennington Day! Bright skies, cool temperatures and huge crowds greeted the more than 150 local businesses and non-profit organizations that set up booths on South Main Street. Friends, neighbors and visitors strolled the streets, talking with one another while trying (unsuccessfully) to resist the temptations of Pennington Fire Company’s sausage sandwiches, Bev Mill’s strawberry shortcakes, or the treats from many other food vendors.

While the kids bouncing on the inflatables or climbing the rock wall in the Kids Zone probably were not aware of it, they and everyone else who came out for the day were part of building a stronger Hopewell Valley. Pennington Day builds community by bringing people together, providing a showcase for local organizations, and raising money for local non-profits. Seventeen local groups received checks totaling more than $7,000 on Saturday.

This idyllic day could not have been possible without countless hours of work by dozens of volunteers and the support of our sponsors. At the top of the list are the members of the Pennington Day Board: Rachel Donnington, Meredith Sferra, Mike Tusay, Margret van Vuuren, Kareen Bar-Akiva, Janet Pressel, Hannah Williams, Allie Kopkash, Lizzie Schafer, Christina Blackwell, Nancy Breland, Joe Lawver, Lucy Anderson Meuller, Chris Schafer, Jaclyn Petrin, Lauren Walter, Chris Sullivan, Jason Wisinski, Kirt Rosenbaum, Carol Lipson and Erin O’Connell. After that list comes Pennington Borough Public Works and Public Safety teams, Mercer County DOT, HVRSD, Howe Commons and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Next come our event sponsors: The Pennington School, Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty, First Bank, and Dr. Mark McDonough Orthodontist. Many, many other volunteers and sponsors played their parts in a creating a fun, safe and successful Pennington Day. The entire Hopewell Valley is grateful for your service to the community.”
