Hope is in the Bag in Pennington

by Mary Galioto

The Pennington Business and Professional Association is planning a week-long “Hope is in the Bag” campaign, from October 17 through 24, to promote awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for those undergoing treatment at Capital Health

Throughout the week, many Pennington businesses will be participating in promotions and special events and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Capital Health Center for Oncology Wig Fund. With the average cost of one wig being $450, this fund that allows Capital Health to provide wigs to cancer patients who cannot afford them.

Business owners plan to distribute educational material from the Center for Comprehensive Breast Care, including mammogram cards sharing the message of importance of early detection.

“At the Capital Health Center for Comprehensive Breast Care, we know that cancer does not define the person we are treating,” said Dr. Lisa Allen, fellowship trained breast surgeon and director of the Capital Health Center for Comprehensive Breast Care. “It is with that in mind that we built a Center that treats not just the disease, but the person as well. The Wig Fund allows us to build on that promise, providing a renewed sense of confidence in a very overwhelming time in a woman’s life.”
