Hopewell Boro Continues 125th Anniversary Year with Additional Events

by Ryan Kennedy

Hopewell Borough in Mercer County continues its yearlong celebration of the 125h anniversary of its incorporation with several additional events…

First up on October 30th is a historic Halloween tour of one of Hopewell’s famous graveyards on Broad Street. Come walk among the tombstones where Hopewell’s founders were laid to rest.  Join local historian David Blackwell on Sunday, October 30, at 4:30 pm, for a tour of Hopewell’s Old School Baptist graveyard. Bring a flashlight and what bravery you can muster to visit there just before dark. The tour will attempt to summon the memories (and maybe ghosts!) of Rev. Eaton, Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs, Esquire David Stout, Revolutionary War soldiers, Declaration of Independence signer John Hart, Civil War soldiers, and even the bodiless grave of a victim of the sinking of the Titanic!

Meet in front of the old brick church at 4:15 pm on West Broad Street.  No registration required.

Featuring Bob Steeler’s new band TWANG, with Mike Brody on guitar and John Wheeler on bass. Special guests Singer Songwriter – Gwynne Alden, Lliam O’Gara on stand up bass and Owen Graham on cello with more to be announced. A few members of local favorites ‘Thomas Wesley Stern’ will sit in during the first set.  Enjoy good music, light snacks, coffee, tea and bring your own beverages at the beautiful newly renovated Hopewell Playhouse.  Tickets are available for $15.  A special 125th Anniversary Kids Quilt will also be on display that night.

For additional information on any of the events, including weather related calculations, visit the Borough’s 125th Anniversary Facebook Page, or contact the organizing committee by email.
