This month, Hope Rises Us (“HRU”) is partnering to present several events building on the momentum of the Women’s March — including traveling back to where they started.
Born out of the energy of the Women’s March on Washington DC, Hope Rises Up makes social and political advocacy accessible to Hopewell Valley residents who want to strengthen progressive and inclusive values and policies, both locally and nationally. This local non-partisan not-for-profit organization follows the non-violent principles of Martin Luther King, Jr., and promotes policies and initiatives aligned with progressive ideals.
On Friday, January 11, the Hopewell Valley Race & Diversity Discussion Group will be hosting a potluck dinner and community conversation about issues of diversity, race, racism, and prejudice in our community. HRU is proud to co-host and help facilitate the evening, which is graciously hosted by St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Pennington. On Saturday, January 12 from 2-4pm, join HRU for a “Sign-Making Open House” also at St. Matthews in Pennington. All supplies provided for sign-making and button-making, too. All are welcome. Please consider making a $5 donation at the door. Local non-profit and progressive groups are also invited to participate and share information about their group.
“Our sign making events are a wonderful way to connect with like-minded people in our own community, which is key to everything we do,” said HRU co-founder Heidi Wilenius. “Marches help energize us and spread awareness of the many issues we face locally and nationally, but they are not the ‘real work.’ There is so much work to be done year-round, and by making connections at events like ours, people are more likely to work together on future actions and local community projects.”
On Saturday, January 19 for Women’s March, HRU will be going back to where they started. HRU will be marching with people of all walks of life from across the country, showing up and speaking out on behalf of the Country’s democracy, social and economic justice, and the planet. The group will be reserving a bus to Washington DC, departing Hopewell Elementary School. For those interested, full price seats are $65. Subsidized seats available.
