Hopewell Township Administrator Pogorzelski to Retire, Successor Appointed

by MercerMe Staff

After more than a decade as Hopewell Township Administrator, Paul Pogorzelski will retire December 29, 2017. While trying to fill his shoes will be difficult, Township officials have been planning for his exit for several months to ensure residents will feel no interruption in services.

The Township Committee recently voted unanimously to appoint Elaine Borges, the Township’s Chief Financial Officer for 22 years, as Assistant Administrator, effective immediately. Upon Pogorzelski’s retirement, Borges will assume the Administrator position while also continuing to serve as Township CFO.

Borges is a lifelong resident of Hopewell Township, and has served the Township with distinction.

“I look forward to working with Elaine in the years ahead as we continue the process of finding more efficiencies that will allow our government to run more effectively and better serve all the residents of Hopewell Township,” said Mayor Kevin Kuchinski.

Earlier this year, Mark Kataryniak was appointed to head both the Township’s Community Development department, replacing Robert Miller who retired at the beginning of the year and to serve as Township Engineer.

“This enabled us to have an extended transition and handover period, so that Mark can benefit from Paul’s deep understanding of the Township and get up-to-speed as Township Engineer before Paul retires,” Mayor Kuchinski explained.

With the hiring of Kataryniak for Community Development and Engineer, and Ms. Borges’ elevation to a joint Administrator/ CFO role, the Township has effectively consolidated three Township positions (Community Development, Administrator/Engineer, and Township CFO) into two, with responsibilities being re-balanced as noted above.
