Hopewell Township Declares June LGBTQ Pride Month

by Harry Becker

The Hopewell Township Committee proclaimed June as LGBTQ Pride Month at a flag raising ceremony on Monday evening.

Mayor Kristin McLaughlin, in her proclamation, stated that “the members of the Hopewell Township Committee are committed to promoting equality and fostering welcoming and supportive environments for all.”

McLaughlin noted as well that June 2019 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Stonewall demonstrations, stating that they are “a catalyst in the fight for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer rights.”

McLaughlin, alongside Deputy Mayor Michael Ruger and Committee members Kevin Kuchinski and Julie Blake, raised a rainbow flag outside the municipal building and “urged all of our residents to celebrate diversity and inclusion.”
