Hopewell Valley election results

by Amie Rukenstein

Edited at 9:47am Wednesday to say: Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello told MercerMe this morning:”From what I have learned, we have approximately 11,000 provisional ballots outstanding county-wide and vote by mail ballots from the drop boxes from last evening and those returned to the polling locations are not yet logged in.”

Election results are still coming in nationally, with the presidential race too close to call; but in the Hopewell Valley, the results appear to be set. The result below, announced as an unofficial tally by the Mercer County Clerk last night, do not include provisional ballots cast yesterday. They do include machine cast ballots (151 in the whole county). It is not clear what percentage of the mailed in votes remain to be counted – we have reached out to the Clerk’s office to clarify that and will update this story when that question is answered.

The big story for Hopewell Township is the Board of Education race, where five candidates ran for three seats. As of now the results are:

Hopewell Valley BOE

Andrea Driver 4,430 (22.93%)
Anita Williams Galiano 4,056 (21%)
Adam Sawicki 4,043 (20.93%)
Jackie Genovsi 3,588 (18.57%)
Ross Gordon 3,097 (16.03%)

There were no Board of Education seats up in either of the two boroughs.

This percentage was reflected in Mercer County, which as of last night had tallied 71.04% in favor of legalization.
