Hopewell Valley Hosts 2nd Annual Fire Safety Open House (LOTS OF PHOTOS)

by Mary Galioto

The Hopewell Valley Uniformed Firefighters Association IAFF Local 3897 and Hopewell Township Fire District No. 1., along with all of the Hopewell Valley volunteer fire departments and rescue squads, hosted their Fire Safety Open House on Saturday, October 15. This year’s theme: Don’t Wait, Check the Date, reminded everyone to turn over their smoke detectors to check the date of manufacture on the back.So many community members turned out to support this annual community event held at the Hopewell Township Municipal Complex. This year, the event featured a blood drive, state police helicopter, safety displays, fire safety demonstrations, a K9 demonstration, fire fighting equipment and free food.

MercerMe was there too and enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by our “selfie booth.” Check out the photos (if you’re on mobile, you can scroll through):

“We have been teaching fire safety in schools and day cares for years now,” said Ashley Coble, Fire Prevention Coordinator Hopewell Township Fire District No. 1. “And we really wanted to have a community event that brings families together in an educational atmosphere and showcase to the community what our first responders are able to do. Demonstrations and information appealed to all age groups. It was a great day! This was our second year hosting this event and we hope for this tradition to becoming a staple in Hopewell Valley — fire and life safety is an important lesson.”
