Hopewell Valley Regional School District Approves New Food Service Provider

by Mary Galioto

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Hopewell Valley Regional School District approved a new food service provider, Pomptonian Food Services.

Pomptonian, who will replace international Sodexo, is New Jersey based and manages cafeterias and vending operations in nearly 33o primary and secondary school locations across New Jersey.

“Our Administration made the recommendation to change food service providers based on the expectation that our students will get high quality meals, great service and a better value for our district. It is an extra pleasure that we are supporting a local NJ business. It’s great to buy local but we are doing so because they offer a great product and value,” shared Board of Education President Lisa Wolff.

In the past few years, under Sodexo’s service, the school district found it needed to subsidize the school lunch program because it lost money, while the contract with Pomptonian guarantees that that the district will make money the first year. Plus existing employees will be retained with their current hours and rate of pay.

We are expecting great quality. For example deli sandwiches are a very popular lunch item. Pomptonian will feature Boars Head,” said Wolff.

Earlier this year, Sodexo piloted a premium lunch program with Hopewell Elementary School featuring locally sourced, “from scratch” dishes.  (Get MercerMe coverage HERE)It was offered 2 days a week by prepaid subscription.  Pomptonian plans to offer a similar program everyday at all elementary schools with no subscription.
