HVRSD BOE swears in new members, elects new President

by Amie Rukenstein

At its reorganization meeting Monday night, the HVRSD Board of Education swore in recently elected members Bill Herbert and John Mason, representing Hopewell Township and Jessica Grillo, representing Hopewell Borough. Pennington Borough had no seats up for election in 2019.

The group then voted on its president and vice president for the coming year. Deborah Linthorst (Hopewell Township), who is just starting her second year on the Board, was elected president. She replaces Alyce Murray (Hopewell Township), who served as president for the past two years. Adam Sawicki (Hopewell Township), who has been a member of the BOE since 2011, was re-elected for his second year as BOE vice-president.

After the meeting, Linthorst said, “I am honored to represent this Board and look forward to working with my fellow members in the year to come.  This is an accomplished group that brings a great deal of experience and expertise to the table, and is equipped to handle potential challenges with skill and with a sense of thoughtfulness. Working together, and with the administration, staff and our partners in the community, I am confident that we will identify and capitalize on opportunities to enrich the lives of the students in this district.

The other returning members of the Board are: Sarah Tracy (Hopewell Township), Deborah O’Reilly (Hopewell Township), and Jenny Long (Pennington Borough).
