Hopewell Valley Senior Services October Events and Activities

The Hopewell Valley Senior Services offers events, programs, educational classes, and lectures throughout the year. This month, they are offering the following:

AARP Safe Driver Friday
October 5, 9am-4pm at Hopewell Township Municipal Building Auditorium, 201 Washington Crossing Pennington Road, Titusville, NJ 08560. $15/person for AARP Members and $20 for non-members. Registration required by calling the Hopewell Valley YMCA at (609) 737-3048. The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher course designed especially for drivers 50 and older. Participants learn defensive techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. Through interacting with one another, they find out how to safely adjust their driving to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. Graduates receive a certificate of completion that entitles them to a reduction in their auto insurance premiums in NJ. Participants must attend the whole day to complete the course.

Brown Bag Luncheon
Friday, October 5, 12:30pm at Pennington Presbyterian Church, 13 S. Main Street, Pennington. Lunch is at 12:30pm with the program at 1pm. Bring your sandwich, Beverage and light dessert will be provided. At age 55, people are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires compared to the rest of the population. Throughout the past few years the number of older adults dying in fires has been on the rise in Mercer County and in the US. Join us as the Mercer County Council of Fire Safety for Older Adults presents important information about hazards in your home and ways you can prevent an emergency. Things are changing every day, make sure you are up to speed on the new rules and regulations, learn about the resources available to you in Hopewell Valley.

Birthday Breakfast
Friday, October 12, 9am at Hopewell Valley Golf Club, 114 Pennington Hopewell Road, Hopewell. Please join us for a birthday breakfast in your honor, along with other Hopewell Valley Seniors celebrating birthdays in the months from July –December. We welcome and encourage spouses and guests to attend at a cost of $15, which may be paid at the door. Registration is required, please call Liz at (609) 537-0257 by Friday, October 5.

Lunch & Learn
Wednesday, October 17, 12pm at Brandywine Senior Living at Pennington, 143 W. Franklin Ave, Pennington. Join us for a lunch and learn compliments of Brandywine Senior Living, enjoy a free lunch and learn about Downsizing! To register, please call Liz at (609) 537-0257 by October 10.

Coffee Connections, Hallowed Ground-Putting the Civil War Dead to Rest
Monday, October 29, 10am at Hopewell Borough Hall, 88 East Broad Street, Hopewell. 750,000 died in the Civil War but the tragedy was magnified by disrespectful burial practices. This program shows how Federal and State governments, plus civilian women, rectified this matter. The controversial issue of statues and monuments is also covered. Registration is requested by calling Liz at (609) 537-0257. Light refreshments will be provided.

Senior Luncheon
Wednesday, October 31, 12:15pm at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Performing Arts Center, 259 Pennington Titusville Road, Pennington. Join us for lunch and a show by the high school students. Registration is REQUIRED, space is LIMITED! Please call Liz at (609) 537-0257, no later than October 17.
